United Way collecting Back to School donations

The St. Joseph County United Way is staging a “Back to School” event Friday and it is asking the public for help.
Scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event will benefit children in the community who need school supplies and backpacks.
Shoppers at the Sturgis Walmart this week can purchase school supplies to be donated, then place the items in bins outside the store.
United Way volunteers will help with collections in front of the store over the five-hour period Friday.
Cash donations will also be accepted.
The purchased items will then be donated to the children directly in local schools.
