Michelle Horning, 37

Michelle Lynn Horning, age 37, of Vicksburg, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2015 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo following a 15 month illness. She was born in Sturgis, MI on July 3, 1978 the daughter of Michael and Cynthia (Bucknell) Mingus and was a lifetime resident of the area. She graduated from Sturgis High School in 1997 and later from the Glen Oaks Community College Nursing School. She was currently employed as an R.N. at Bronson Hospital. In her youth she was a member of 4-H, enjoyed riding horses, bowling, and playing softball. She was a member of the Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene where she volunteered at church activities. She also volunteered at Vicksburg Schools and made a mission trip to Haiti.

Michelle was married to Benjamin Horning in Three Rivers on Aug. 24, 2002. He survives along with two children, Kenzie and Brady Horning; her mother, Cynthia Mingus; father and step-mother Michael (Mary) Mingus; brother, Scott (Angela) Mingus all of Sturgis; step-sister, Michelle Hocker of Atlanta, GA; step-brother, Michael Hocker of the Virgin Islands; two nephews, Jarred Finnerman and Brent Mingus; paternal grandmother, Virginia Mingus of Sturgis; in laws, Bud and Dagne Horning of Mendon; aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Wallace Mingus; maternal grandparents, Richard and Janice Bucknell; and aunt, Pamela Bucknell.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has been conducted. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015 at the Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene, 7520 East U Avenue, Vicksburg. Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church with Pastor Dave Downs officiating followed by fellowship in the social room of the church. Memorial donations may be directed to either the Horning Educational Fund (for her children), the Animal Rescue Project of Kalamazoo, or the Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene.
