A plan to turn the old Three Rivers Hospital into a mixed-campus development was presented Wednesday in Three Rivers.
Created by Birmingham-based Gibbs Planning Group, the concept includes a major residential component, restaurant and calls for expanding the property’s sled hill.
The proposal received a warm reception from municipal and other community leaders assembled to hear and see the presentation by company president Bob Gibbs.
Gibbs said the concept’s residential component requires further input but could be developed to feature as many as 40 college beds or 12 to 20 market-rate apartments and condominium units. The units could range from lofts up to three-bedroom residences.
The plan was created as part of the city’s involvement in the America’s Best Communities competition. The city was informed in April of its standing as a quarterfinalist – one of 50 communities from an original field of 400 – in the program.
The top eight will be announced in January and remain eligible for a $3 million prize.
