Robert Michael “Bonezy” Schabes, age 58 of White Pigeon died Wednesday Oct. 21, 2015 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born in Chicago on April 18, 1957 the son of Robert John and Joan Marie (Murray) Schabes. He attended primary school in Chicago and graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1975. He was a welder, and had worked for U.S. Cargo of Bristol, Indiana and Recreation by Design (RBD) in Elkhart. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching all sports.
Bonezy is survived by his father, Robert J. Schabes of Sturgis; a brother, Brian Schabes of White Pigeon; a sister, Karen (Roger Frederick) Woods of Sturgis; 3 nieces, Dawn Phelps, Misty Schabes, and Angie Wilkins; aunt, Joyce Keller; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Schabes; nephew, Joey Woods; aunts, Joan Jackson and Carol McCarroll; and uncles, William and John Schabes.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been conducted. A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday Nov. 7, 2015 at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in Mendon with Rev. Jim Vinh Le officiating. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Foundation. Assistance was provided by the Eickhoff Funeral Home of Mendon.
