Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services of St. Joseph County has announced the St. Joseph County Health Center will end primary-care services effective Oct. 16 and close for good Nov. 6.
The move comes after members of the CMH board in July decided to end the agency’s relationship with the St Joseph County Health Center Board, which was not a legal entity.
CMH executive director Liz O’Dell said the entity had the understanding that a federally qualified health center would be asked to provide services for this area until a new grantee was selected based on the applicants for the service-area competition that concluded Sept. 15.
That course of action, however, never materialized.
Customers have been advised since Sept. 16 that there are a number of primary care providers who are willing to accept new patients.
