Police are releasing no new information about two murders that occurred late this summer in St. Joseph County, but officials continue to investigate the two separate homicides.
St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough this week said police are awaiting results from the Michigan State Police crime lab regarding evidence collected at both scenes.
About 4 a.m. Aug. 31, the body of a Hispanic male was found along the side of Klinger Lake Road in Florence Township. He had a single, small-caliber gunshot wound to the head. Police have not released the man’s identity.
The following day, 71-year-old Lavern Chupp was found dead at his home in the 13000 block of Riverside Drive in Constantine Township.
McDonough was quick to emphasize the two murders are not related.
