White Pigeon girls struck by vehicle

Two members of the White Pigeon High School girls’ cross country team were injured Monday when they were struck by a vehicle near Bonneyville Mill Park in Elkhart County, Ind.
Sheriff’s deputies said Audrey Baker, 16, and Kaitlyn Caraway, 15, were running on the team’s course around 4 p.m. and were struck by an SUV as they tried to cross County Road 8 to continue on a running trail.
The vehicle was driven by Jaime Lopez, 47, of, Elkhart.
According to deputies, Baker was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of a broken arm. Caraway was airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital with a fractured pelvis and head injury.
School officials said Caraway was in the intensive care unit and Baker had surgery on her arm Tuesday morning.
No citation was issued.
