Carl J. Stuby, age 88, of Centreville, passed away Friday, November 13th, 2015 at Three Rivers Health. He was born in Sherman Township on July 15, 1927, a son of Leo and Ella (Ott) Stuby. Carl graduated from Centreville High School in 1945 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 in the 2nd Armored Division. On May 9, 1953, he married June A. Pagels in Sherman Township. Carl worked at Peterson Springs, Three Rivers, for 39 1/2 years, and was a farmer all his life. He was a member of the Jr. Farm Bureau and was selected as State Farmer of FFA, showed sheep when in 4-H and was elected to go to State from St. Joseph County. He enjoyed talking about his younger days, and looked forward to his Army reunion every year.
Carl is survived by his wife June; children Ron Stuby, Centreville, Christine (Brad) Hartong, Centreville, and Gary (Karen) Stuby, Ft. Wayne; grandchildren Jason (Heather) Hartong, Adam (Veronica) Hartong, Cheryl (Eric) Byler, Joy Hartong, Joel (Jessica) Hartong, Aaron (Marie) Hartong, Rebecca (Joel) Rouch, Jill (Jason) Gibson, Kim (Danny) Roller, and Ben (Elizabeth) Stuby; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers Dale (Sally) Stuby, Centreville, and Earl (Helen) Stuby, White Pigeon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Relatives and friends will be received Tuesday from 3-7 pm at Eley Funeral Home, Centreville where religious services will be held on Wednesday 11 am. Pastor David Grimm, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Prairie River Cemetery, Centreville.
