Glen Oaks professor named outstanding educator

Ren Hartung, professor of science at Glen Oaks Community College, has received the Trends in Occupational Studies Outstanding Educator award.
College officials said Hartung was nominated for his work and excellence within the classroom, professional achievements and service to the college. He recently accepted the award at the annual Trends Conference in Traverse City.
Hartung is said to be engaged with his students, according to Margaret Hale-Smith, retired dean of students who nominated Hartung for the award.
In meeting the needs for a diversity of learning styles, Hartung has produced about 100 You Tube videos over the last several years to assist students enrolled in his science classes.
Hartung, an eight-year faculty member of Glen Oaks, receives $500 for the award.
