More than two dozen families were assisted Saturday thanks to a semi-annual event staged by the St. Joseph County Great Start Parent Coalition.
Parent liaison Matie James said the Communitywide Baby Shower program, staged at Firm Foundation Ministries in Centreville, has been in place for more than five years and provides families help with their newborn.
During the 2 1/2-hour event, clothes, diapers and baby-related gifts were provided to mothers of the newborn or soon-to-be born. Registration to the event showed guests taking part in the program came from all communities in the county.
In addition to the free items, representatives from Pregnancy Help Line, the St. Joseph County CA/N Council, and the tri-county health department were on hand to lead demonstrations and provide information relevant to the care of newborns.
