Resident raises concerns about Road Commission

A Florence Township resident advised members of the county commission to be cautious in whether to reappoint a member to the St. Joseph County Road Commission Board.
Tim Carls, a fixture at the twice-a-month county commission meetings, told the board last week he has reservations about the reappointment of David Allen.
Carls said Allen is busy professionally as well as in his capacity as a Glen Oaks Community College board member. Carls suggested the opening be posted and interviews with prospective candidates be conducted before the six-year appointment is made.
Carls said the commission, which is charged with appointing members to the five-person road commission board, might be better served by someone else.
The county board is expected to act on the matter Dec. 1.
Though he was not present at the meeting, Allen said he is interested in serving another term to the road commission board.
