Three area teams out of playoffs

Three of the area’s four state football playoff teams bowed out in the opening round of action Friday.
The fourth, Constantine, pulled off an upset in topping previously unbeaten and state No. 2-ranked Schoolcraft. Constantine’s Tristian Butler kicked an overtime field goal to lift the Falcons over the Eagles, 31-28, in Division 6 action.
Elsewhere, Mendon saw its 27-game win streak – a string of victories that started in 1978 – over Climax-Scotts snapped. In the Division 8 contest, the Panthers claimed an 8-6 win in a defensive battle, to remain undefeated.
Also in Division 8, Colon fell to Pittsford, 46-6, in a rematch of a Week 5 contest that produced the same victor.
In Division 3, Sturgis saw its season end with a 6-4 record after losing to St. Joseph, 33-20.
