Condition of Constantine Road again brought up to Commissioners

Florence Township Supervisor Gordon Evilsizor last week issued a plea to the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners before the five-member panel acted on the county’s 2016 budget Tuesday
Appearing for the fifth time in less than three months, Evilsizor once again inquired about an allowance to fix Constantine Road, a north-south route widely considered the worst road in St. Joseph County.
Evilsizor said he would like to see a motion made to help fund the 6.6-mile stretch of Constantine Road that he called treacherous, unsafe and dangerous. Evilsizor spoke during the citizen comments portion of the meeting, and following protocol, commissioners did not engage in two-way dialogue during the segment.
Evilsizor reminded them that Constantine Road is a county road and an obligation by the county to fund and maintain. He questioned why commissioners wouldn’t, at the least, consider making a motion to fund improvement-related expenses for the route.
Evilsizor said he’ll continue to keep “beating the drum” until a plan is devised to address the state of Constantine Road.
