Constantine studies assault weapon ban proposal

Members of the Constantine Village Council are studying a proposal to ban assault weapons.
No mention was made at last week’s council meeting regarding a problem with such weapons within the village. Police chief Mark Honeysett said a memo regarding the matter was included in council packets for review at the request of village president Pat Weiss. Weiss was absent from the meeting.
Honeysett said it’s his understanding that Weiss is not asking the council to take action at this time. Rather, Weiss is asking the council to review the literature with an eye toward banning such weapons in the village to serve as a message to state legislators, according to Honeysett.
