Holiday tradition continues in Sturgis

A pair of Sturgis service organizations teamed up earlier this month to continue a longstanding local holiday tradition.
Members from Sturgis Elks and the city’s Kiwanis clubs joined for the annual “Boots and Shoes” giveaway.
The Elks club provides children with either a new pair of shoes or boots with footwear provided at cost by Willer’s Shoes in downtown Sturgis.
Meanwhile, members of the Kiwanis club gathered at St. John’s Episcopal Church to stage a pizza party, visit with Santa, and a gift and photo. In addition, hats, gloves and socks, provided by Ayres Insurance were distributed.
Members of Key Club, an arm of the Kiwanis Club at Sturgis High School, also played a role by wrapping presents and passing out the clothing items.
The clubs served nearly 100 children in kindergarten through second grades; they were recommended by their classroom teachers.
