Glen Oaks Community College is another step closer to getting dormitories.
Members of the board of trustees voted last week to allow the company Student Suites to move forward with a fully developed plan for dormitories at the college.
The vote followed a presentation by Dick Davis and Kimberly Christianson of Missouri-based Student Suites. Davis and Christianson shared details about other college dormitories Student Suites has helped facilitate, including Jackson Community College and Lake Michigan Community College.
Possible opening at the Centreville-area campus could take place in fall 2017.
Student Suites proposes that the dormitories be college-owned and that they contain 100 beds. Private bedrooms would be featured in a shared suite. Each suite would contain four bedrooms and two baths, a common area and a small kitchen area. The facility will require an entertainment area, the pair said.
