Authorities say drivers found at fault in a series of crashes that left one woman dead and about a dozen-and-a-half people injured along Interstate 94 in southwestern Michigan are expected to be issued citations.
The Kalamazoo Gazette reports the Michigan State Police are early in their investigation into the Sunday afternoon pileup near the Van Buren County community of Hartford. But Lt. Dale Hinz says “law enforcement action will be taken” against those who were driving too fast for the wintry conditions, among other things.
Police identified the woman who died as 78-year-old Carol Griesemer of Northville. Her son, who was driving the car, was critically hurt.
The pileup snared more than 40 cars and trucks.
The freeway was closed for about six hours. (AP)
