Helen E. Engle, age 91, of Colon, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016.
She was born March 31, 1924, near Centreville, a daughter of the late Ed and Ranetta (Lahrke) Brueck. She had one brother, LeRoy Brueck, who preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of Centreville High School and worked at Denton Mills.
On Dec. 24, 1944, she married Russell Engle, and together they farmed in Colon. Helen was the head cook at Colon High School for 22 years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. For many years, she served on the Alter Guild, the Kitchen Committee and the Lutheran Ladies groups. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Colon Food Pantry. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and enjoyed cooking, crocheting, sewing and watching sports. She loved to watch her children and grandchildren participate in sporting events.
She is survived by two children, Larry (Cheryl) Engle and Richard (Tina) Engle, both of Colon; and two grandchildren, John (Katrina) Engle of Holt and Lizzie (Laszlo) Koscondy of Kalamazoo.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Helen E. Engle will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Colon, with Pastor David Grimm officiating.
If desired, the family suggests memorials be made in memory of Helen to either St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Birches AFC. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
