Sturgis was host to the Mexican Consulate Dec. 17, as Centro VIDA had received an invitation from Jesus Gutierrez Rodriguez, Community Affairs Diplomat of the Mexican Consulate of Detroit.
The purpose of the meeting was to become informed of the needs of the Hispanic community in Sturgis and surrounding areas.
Gutierrez met with Centro VIDA’s board to discuss the different programs available to Mexican citizens via the Consulate of Detroit. These programs include high school and university diplomas, English and Spanish classes, internet and computer classes, health classes, work development and many others through their Community Class Programs. They currently run more than 116 programs for those living in the United States.
An open forum was also held at the Sturgis Commons Board room with about 30 community members in attendance.
