Two area high school students have been nominated by U.S. Rep. Fred Upton to United States Service Academies.
In all, Upton made 16 service academy nominations for the 2015-2016 academic year.
The group of young men and women has excelled academically and athletically in their respective schools and have gone through an extensive selection process, Upton stated in a media release.
The process included an interview with Upton’s Academy Advisory Board, which is comprised of local community leaders. Upon approval by the board, the students’ names were given to Upton, who then nominated the students to their respective military academies. The individual academies make the final decisions on military appointments.
The local nominees are Constantine High School’s Eric Petosky and Schoolcraft High School’s Connor Sloan.
