Dowagiac man seeking nomination for sheriff

Dowagiac resident Richard Behnke is announcing his intent to pursue the nomination for Cass County sheriff.
A lifelong resident of Cass County, Behnke has been in law enforcement for 30 years, beginning in the village of Marcellus in 1986. He has served the past twenty-nine years at the Cass County Sheriff’s office.
During his career, he served as a deputy and then sergeant in the agency’s patrol division. He was promoted to the Central Dispatch E 9-1-1 director, then to the rank of lieutenant. He was promoted in 2003 to undersheriff.
Behnke graduated from Dowagiac Union High School in 1982 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Management from Ferris State University in 1986.
