Nearly eight full months after she was appointed St. Joseph County clerk, Lindsay Oswald filed paperwork Monday that makes official her candidacy for the August primary election.
Her petition turned in Monday featured 159 signatures – 59 more than the required minimum.
The move was considered no surprise, as Oswald indicated even before she was tapped to complete the 18 months left on Pattie Bender’s term that she would be seeking the four-year position when it expires at the end of the year. Bender retired June 30, 2015, and Oswald took over the job the following day.
A Lockport Township resident, the 36-year-old Oswald was a 10-year employee for the city of Three Rivers, where she was deputy clerk and eventually city clerk.
As county clerk, she also serves as register of deeds. The position pays $71,000 annually.
