Kay Lafler, 75

M. Kay (Thornton) Lafler, age 75, of Colon, passed away, Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
Kay was born December 30, 1940, in Sturgis a daughter to the late Jesse and Velma (Wilcox) Thornton.
She lived all her life in the Colon area, graduating from Colon High School with the Class of 1958.
She had been employed at I.A.C. in Mendon, retiring in 2000. After retirement, she was a home health caregiver until 2015.
Kay enjoyed reading, crocheting, watching golf on TV, playing computer games, playing Yahtzee with friends, playing Skip-Bo with her grandchildren and family dinners. She cherished all her family and friends and was selfless in her giving to those she loved.
She is survived by two daughters, Jodi (Bud) Gross of Colon and Kendra (Carl) Dull of Goshen, Ind.; a son, Chris Baughman of Colon; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, R. Lynn Wagner of Colon; a sister-in-law, Mitzi Thornton of Burr Oak; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Thornton.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Schipper Funeral Home in Colon. A memorial service celebrating the life of Kay will then take place at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Clint Zehr officiating. Private burial of ashes will take place at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery in Colon.
If desired, the family suggests memorials be made in memory of Kay either to Colon Historical Society or to the family for a commemorative sidewalk star for Kay’s father, who was a magician.
