Members of the St. Joseph County’s Solid Waste Committee are asking residents to be mindful of an approaching date as they begin their spring cleaning in coming weeks.
The agency’s twice-a-year collection of household hazardous waste, and recycling of electronics, tires paper and latex paint takes place April 23rd at the county fairgrounds.
The event will take place 8 a.m. to noon and is consistently the larger of the two collections. As a reminder, there is a $10 fee for televisions or monitors, and $20 for console or projection televisions to help offset the expense of having the service available during the program.
Other expenses are $1 per can of latex paint, regardless of the quantity of paint inside the can, and $1 each for passenger and light truck tires. Semi-tractor tires will be accepted for $3 each and tractor tires will be handled for $15 apiece.
Organizers regret to inform that appliance recycling will not be available at the spring collection. As a result, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers will not be accepted.
