A 48-year-old Kendallville, Ind., man is in the St. Joseph County jail after a stabbing incident last week in Sturgis.
According to police, the victim, a loss-prevention team member at Walmart on South Centerville Road, was attempting to stop the man for shoplifting. The worker suffered a stab wound to the neck and was treated at Sturgis Hospital.
Officers were called to the store around 1 p.m. Friday. When police arrived, witnesses gave a description of the suspect, who was subsequently spotted in a corn field across the road.
After a short foot chase, the man was apprehended.
He is charged with attempted murder, armed robbery and two counts of resisting or obstructing a police officer.
His identity is being withheld, pending arraignment.
