Michael Joseph “Mike” Vrobel, age 66 of Mendon, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo following a two month illness. He was born in Kalamazoo on Jan. 15, 1950 the son of the late Raymond W. and Patricia A. (Rynd) Vrobel. The family moved to Mendon in 1964 and Mike graduated from Mendon High School in 1968. He later attended Glen Oaks Community College and Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Mike had been employed at the Haas Corporation in Mendon, Colonial Engineering and Mueller Plastics in Portage and Affinity Custom Molding in Mendon. He was also a self employed grain truck driver, and was a general handyman and “Mr. Fix-It” for local farmers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors, and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Mike was married to Susan Anne Cupp on April 24, 1971 in St. Edward Catholic Church. She survives along with three sons, Joseph (Marcie) Vrobel and Jamie (Nickie) Vrobel both of Mendon and Jeremy (Kristi) Vrobel of Colon; seven grandchildren, Alli Heath, Landon, Ashton, and Camdon Vrobel, and Aiden, Mason, and Cooper Vrobel; a sister, Susan (Rick) Eickhoff, and a brother, Bradley (Kelli) Vrobel both of Mendon; several nieces and nephews; and many in laws.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Friday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. The funeral service will be 11 AM Saturday, March 5, 2016 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon, followed by burial in St. Edward Cemetery. Memorials will be directed to the family.
