Motorists who travel on U.S. 131 in Kalamazoo County are being advised of a construction project starting next week.
The Michigan Department of Transportation on Monday will begin repaving 6.6 miles of U.S. 131 between I-94 and U Avenue in Portage.
The $10.3 million investment includes guardrail replacement, carpool lot resurfacing, new signs and right-of-way fencing, and traffic signal upgrades.
One lane of US-131 will remain open in each direction throughout construction.
The ramp from Centre Avenue to northbound U.S 131 will be closed and detoured on Westnedge Avenue, and westbound I-94 to northbound US-131.
Meanwhile, the U.S. 131/Shaver Road intersection will have a short-duration closure with a posted detour on northbound 131 and eastbound Centre Avenue to Shaver Road.
The project is expected to conclude in September.
