Forrest Schmidtendorff, age 93, formerly of Constantine, died on Monday, April 25, 2016 at the Laurels of Fulton in Perrinton, MI. He was born October 31, 1922 in Cass County, a son of Clarence and Lena (Garwood) Schmidtendorff. He graduated from Constantine High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army.
On July 9, 1943, he married Maxine Breece in Reno, Nevada. She preceded him in death October 20, 2012. Forrest worked at Studebaker in South Bend. He retired from Kirsch Company in White Pigeon after many years of employment. He was also a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Porter Baptist Church and the Constantine American Legion.
Surviving are his sons Michael (Linda) Schmidtendorff, Perrinton, MI and Dale (Jackie) Schmidtendorff, Traverse City, MI; son in law David Ware, Burr Oak, MI; grandchildren Marilyn (Wayne) DiGiacomo, Stacy Sult, Debbie (Bob) Monroe, Dan (Jennifer) Schmidtendorff, Shawn (Brett) Clemens, Cassie (Josh) Wiard, Keri (Jason) Reed, Nicole (Jamie) Vrobel; 21 great grandchildren; and brother Merle Schmidtendorff of Leonidas. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son David Schmidtendorff, daughter Leslie Ware, and siblings Helen May Schmidtendorff, Arthur Schmidtendorff, Donna Lake, and Earl Schmidtendorff.
Relatives and friends will be received Friday from 3 – 7 at the Eley Funeral Home in Constantine. Religious services will be held Saturday at 11 am at Porter Baptist Church. Pastor Randy Peterson will officiate. Interment will be in Constantine Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Porter Baptist Church.
