Maurice Lee “Nick” Nicholas, age 80, died Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Borgess Gardens in Kalamazoo where he had resided the past six weeks. He was born in Vicksburg on Jan. 5, 1936 the son of the late Earl and Grace (Timm) Nicholas. He graduated from Mendon High School with the Class of 1955. Nick was married to Barbara Hiatt on May 25, 1957 and they resided in Mendon where Nick farmed and worked for the Haas Corporation for 25 years. He then worked at Prairie Crop Service for 15 years until his retirement. Nick was a former member of the Mendon Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, and annual fishing trips to Canada.
Nick is survived by his wife, Barbara of Kalamazoo; two daughters, Kelley (Paul) Blacken of Delton and Jamie (Kurt) Calder of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Tyler Daniel Blacken, Nicholas John Blacken, and Taylor Grace Blacken; his brother, Robert Nicholas of Wolcottville, IN.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm Wednesday April 20, 2016 at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon where funeral services will begin at 4 pm. with Rev. Don Wendell officiating.
