Members of the Sherman Township Planning Commission have agreed to issue a special land-use permit to two brothers for a 25-site camp facility.
Proposed by Ben and Jamey Rouch of Three Rivers, the campground could potentially include cabins up to 400 square feet. It also may feature tent and RV camping.
The Rouchs said they would like to include an off- road vehicle park at the property and construct resort cabins featuring about 2,000 square feet. The latter two proposals, however, were not approved as part of the initial special land use permit that was granted.
A number of residents said they are in favor of the plan, believing the recreational aspects would be welcome in Sherman Township and the facility would bring business to the township. Others, however, voiced concerns about noise and hunting on their own property, among other issues.
More than six acres on the property along M-66 already have been rezoned as commercial.
