Stanley Lee McClain, age 91, of Mendon, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born in Mendon on April 21, 1924 the son of Robert J. and Martha (Rench) McClain. Stanley was educated at the Flint School for the Deaf. He worked briefly as a logger in Northern Michigan, and at Fairbanks-Morse in Three Rivers. For 35 years he was employed at Eaton Manufacturing and was a member of the U.A.W., retiring in 1981. Following his retirement, he established his own landscaping business known as McClain Lawn Seeding. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, and watching sports. Stanley was married to Janet L. Peters on Nov. 7, 1958 in Mendon. Janet died on Sep. 21, 1989.
Stanley is survived by two sons, Raymond (Millie) McClain, and Russell McClain both of Mendon,; a daughter, Karen Tyler of Three Rivers; five grandchildren, Harli McClain, Marquell McClain, Courtney Hammond, Jaymon McClain, and Taylor McClain; three great-grandchildren, Destiny McClain, Kloe Hammond, and Thomas R. McClain; a brother, Donald McClain; and two sisters, Martha McClain and Mary Spealman all of Mendon. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; four brothers, Charles, Henry, Ernest, and Robert; a sister, Anna Oldenberg; and granddaughter, Jaylynn McClain.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 pm Sunday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be at 11 am Monday, April 11, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. Roger Moyer, Pastor of the Sturgis Evangelical Church officiating. Burial will be in Calhoun Cemetery in Florence Township. Memorials will be directed to the family.
