TRHS wins safe driving award

A team of TRHS students spearheaded a safe driving campaign over the course of the last few months. The teens facilitated three events that provided our student body with tips about safe driving during the winter months. At the end of the campaign, a report and powerpoint presentation were submitted to a panel of judges. TRHS won second place and a cash prize of $1,250! Event #1: Campaign kickoff in December! This phase introduced the team and our goal. It included a pre­survey about winter driving, For the entire campaign, daily facts from Ford Driving Skills for Life were announced. Event #2: School Assembly/OHSP Driving Simulator in January! Students attended an assembly that featured special speakers. They were also able to experience a driving simulator throughout the week during lunches. Event #3: Student projects in February! Students entered a variety of projects: paintings, poems, crochet and more that promoted safe winter driving into our competition! A huge thank you to the community members who supported this project! The businesses that donated items for prizes include Guaranteed Complete Muffler Service, L&L Driving School, Puc Puc Driving School, and Vetter’s. And, a big thank you to our special speakers: Michigan State Police State Trooper Maurice Burton; Three Rivers Fire Department Chief Carl Holcomb, Deputy Chief Jeff Bloomfield, Captain Paul Schoon, and Firefighter George Phillips. Advisor Bobbi Schoon lead the safe driving team. The team consisted of: Seniors: Ashley Bardwell, Lindsey Evans, Lezlie Lull, Zach Hammon, Alyssa Hucko, and Shazza Riaz. Juniors: Davis Dickerson, Logan Evans, Megan McDowell, Desiree Salinas and Paige Schoon.
