The first of what organizers hope is an annual fundraiser for the county’s Animal Control agency takes place 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Sturgis Elks.
It is being hosted by the St. Joseph County Animal Control Advisory Board.
Emily Frohriep, chair of the nine-member panel, said the outpouring of support from the business community has helped make it a major event.
Cost is $10 per person and attendees are asked to bring a picture of their pet, as it will serve as a name tag. The fundraiser will include a raffle, a chance to win a necklace donated by Fiebig Jewelry, a contest to identify 13 breeds of dogs and a 50/50 raffle.
Light snacks will be available.
Frohriep said proceeds will go to animal control and satisfy its primary need: portable air conditioners and corral pens. Board member Don Eaton has agreed to purchase an air conditioner unit and corral pen if enough money is raised to purchase two of each.
