Harold Eugene Riggs, age 85, of Burr Oak, passed away early Monday morning, May 30, 2016, with his loving family by his side.
He was born July 7, 1930, in Three Rivers, a son to the late Cecil and Wanda (Foust) Riggs.
Harold had resided in Three Rivers until his mid 20s when he moved to Sturgis and began his career at M&R, which is the current Abbott Labs where he was employed for 31 years before his retirement.
On July 23, 1961, in Sturgis he married Janice J. Godden. She preceded him in death March 20, 1991.
He was a past member of the Lions Club and was a 4-H Leader when the girls were growing up and was a member of the B.O. Misssionary Church in Burr Oak where he was very involved and served as Head Usher.
Harold enjoyed camping very much and was a member of the “Loners on Wheels”, which is a camping club for widow or widowers. He also enjoyed word puzzles and tinkering around the house.
Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Trouten of Burr Oak, and Missy (Mark) Coulson of Paw Paw, Mich.; grandchildren, Bryan and Aaron Trouten, Amy Coulson, Timothy (Jessica) Coulson, Amanda (Charles) Mitchell, Tim Fuller, and Jess Coulson; great-grandchildren, Malia Trouten, Aiden Trouten, Brandon Mitchell, Hunter Mitchell, and Rebecca Mitchell; one sister, Lois Johnson of Kalamazoo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice; and son-in-law, David Trouten.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Rosenberg Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 807 E. Chicago Rd., Sturgis, MI 49091.
Services celebrating the life of Harold Eugene Riggs will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home with Pastors George Milliman and Brian Lutz, officiating.
Interment and graveside services will follow in South Colon Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the family to help with expenses and envelopes are available at the funeral home.
