Leah L. Decker, age 92, of Bremen, Ind., and formerly of Colon, Mich., passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016, in Bremen.
Leah was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Marion, Ind., a daughter of the late Franklin & Grace P. (Kessler) Cotton.
Her early years were spent in Marion. She later moved to Michigan and graduated in 1942 from Lansing High School.
On Sept. 5, 1942, she married Dr. Norman K. Decker in Lansing, Mich. He preceded her in death March 27, 2003. She had worked in her husband’s doctors’ office for many years.
Leah was a charter member of Hazelton Country Club in Brook, Ind., charter member of PSI IOTA XI, former member of Colon Garden Club and Brownsburg Garden Club and a member of the Republican National Women’s Association. Leah and Deck were known for their generous spirit, often taking in children who were in need of loving care.
She is survived by three daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Teghtmeyer of Bremen, Ind., Kimberly (Cecil) Calloway of Brookston, Ind., and Melissa Decker of Bremen, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Leah (Tom) Whitford, Patrick (Jodie) Calloway, Sarah (Larry) Mackey, Robb (Kathi) Blume, Dan (Beth) Blume, Amy (Chris) Allen and Joe (Chris) Teghtmeyer; 21 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by sister Billie Permoda of Fort Wayne, Ind.; sister-in-law Mary Decker of Colon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; four sisters, Mary Cotton, Glenda Poole, Connie Oxley and Dorothy Young; and a brother, Franklin Cotton.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2016, at Colon United Methodist Church, with funeral service being held at
1 p.m. at the church.?The Rev David J. Farrell will officiate. Burial will follow at South Colon Cemetery in Colon.
