Road commission efficiency study proposed

A St. Joseph County commissioner has proposed an efficiency study related to the county’s road commission be conducted.
Don Eaton during a recent commission meeting said the concept would involve a short-term committee to participate in the potential study. He said areas such as the road commission’s budget, operations, efficiencies and roads would be prudent starting points for the analysis.
The study would look at current conditions, and recommend best practices that have been employed successfully in multi-state areas, Eaton said, adding that county administrator Pat Yoder would likely be tapped to secure a consultant to assist with the proposed effort.
Eaton suggested the committee include four township supervisors, a pair of community members and one of the county’s five commissioners. He said information and recommendations, as well as any findings by efficiency consultants, would be detailed in a public manner at the conclusion of the proposed study.
Eaton said he would like to discuss the proposal in greater detail at the commission’s executive committee meeting Wednesday.
