William Ray “Bill” Coomer, age 72, of Mendon, died Friday, May 3, 2016 at his home following a long illness. He was born in Paulding, Ohio on Sep. 20, 1943 the son of Robert L. and Wilma (Davis) Coomer. Bill graduated from Centreville High School in 1961 and later attended Kellogg Community College. He was a life-long farmer, and sponsor of 4-H activities. He enjoyed flower gardening, and billiards, playing in the Michiana Pool League.
Bill was married to Paula Marie Meyer on Feb. 1, 1965 in Centreville. She survives along with five children, Gwen (Ernst) Snider of Grand Haven, Katie (David) Warner of Henderson, NV, Paul Coomer of Mendon, Christine (Joe) Koller of Mendon, and William “Billy” Coomer, Jr. of Three Rivers; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, John (Kerry) Coomer of Nottawa; four sisters, Rita Decker of Centreville, Kathy (Bob) Hempel and Mary (Mark) Vargo both of Three Rivers, and Joan (Bill) Kelley; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bobby Coomer; and a brother, George Coomer.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Monday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. Funeral services will be at 11 am Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at the funeral home followed by interment in Nottawa Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to a charity of one’s choice.
