Joyce A. Witek, age 74, of Constantine, passed away on Thursday, June 23rd 2016 at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo. Joyce was born in South Bend on September 24, 1941 a daughter of Duane and Margaret (McClellan) Thornton. On April 13, 1956 she married Anthony “Tony” Witek in Centreville. He preceded her in death February 24, 2006. Joyce worked for many years at Troyers and Wagner’s Grocery in White Pigeon and also at Ventline in Bristol.
Joyce was a devoted mother who supported her children through all aspects of life. She never missed being a spectator at all of her children’s athletic events. She continued to play a huge important role throughout their lives.
Joyce was the happiest being actively involved in her grandchildren’s lives. She shared her passion for Notre Dame football with many family members. She also loved lighthouses, flowers, wind chimes, the sunshine, clowns, Santa figurines, following the MLB career of her nephew Matt, and the military career of her nephew Lt. Colonel Ryan Regtuyt. Joyce loved to visit Florida as often as possible, to spend time with family and friends.
Joyce is preceded in death by her her parents, brother Terry Thornton, grandson Jeremiah Witek, husband Anthony Witek, and daughter Susan Blue.
Joyce is survived by her two sons, Scott and Tod Witek, seven grandchildren, Kyle Witek, Mitchell Wright, Kandance Witek, Aiden Witek, Chelsea Witek, Grant Karle, and Emily Blue, two brothers, Tom (Carol) Thornton, Jack (Sheila) Thornton, nieces and nephews, and many great grandchildren, including her Ella Rose.
Visitation will be at Eley Funeral Home in Constantine on Tuesday from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11am at Eley Funeral Home. Pastor Dennis Smith will officiate. The family request that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Lutheran Church in Constantine or to Kairos Dwelling Hospice.
