Officers from the Three Rivers Police Department were called Friday evening to a report of a fight in progress in the 600 block of South Erie Street.
Upon arrival, officers found seven people actively engaged in a physical confrontation. Additional people joined in the melee before officers were able to disperse the participants.
Officers responded again to a fight, this time at 12:20 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Fifth Street. The incident, which included about 50 people, was considered a carryover from the earlier situation.
In all, five people were arrested, with charges ranging from aggravated assault and resisting arrest, to disorderly conduct. Names of the people arrested were not immediately available.
Three Rivers police were assisted by law-enforcement officials from St. Joseph, Cass and Kalamazoo counties, Centreville, Constantine, White Pigeon, Schoolcraft and Vicksburg.
