Two area communities will celebrate Independence Day with parades and other related fanfare.
The 4th of July in Colon will be celebrated Monday with activities split between downtown on Blackstone Avenue and further west at Colon Community Park.
The holiday parade starts at 11 a.m. Meanwhile, the Colon Historical Museum will be open 1 to 3 p.m. Also, a variety of games and magic shows will be staged downtown after the parade.
Fireworks over Palmer Lake will conclude the holiday at dusk.
Meanwhile, the village of Constantine will stage its annual fireworks display Monday at dusk from the Little League fields.
The event will be preceded by the village’s 11 a.m. Independence Day parade. A daylong series of activities will take place in Constantine’s downtown area, as well.
