An Indiana man who was unresponsive after being pulled from Diamond Lake in Cass County earlier this month has recovered and was released from the hospital.
Sheriff Joe Underwood said 84-year-old Paul Schafer of Marshall County was pulled from the lake July 22 and taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital. Underwood said Schafer was released from medical care Sunday and his family stated he is expected to make a full recovery.
Medical personnel indicated that quick response to Schafer’s need of CPR after being pulled from the lake was a significant factor in his recovery. CPR was initiated by family members and neighbors under the direction of a Cass County 911 Dispatcher.
Schafer fell off a floating lawn chair shortly after 3 p.m. on the west side of Diamond Lake.
