Richard Almasi, 78

Richard E. Almasi, 78, of Shipshewana, Ind., died Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at Kindred Valley View Nursing Home in Elkhart, after a five-week illness.
He was born May 10, 1938, in White Pigeon, a son of Frank G. and Mary E. (Welker) Almasi Sr.
Richard was a Shipshewana and White Pigeon area resident all his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
On Sept. 10, 1960, he married Dixie Lee Hershberger in White Pigeon. She preceded him in death Dec. 20, 1982.
He was a member of the NRA, Wild Turkey Federation, a farmer, tree farmer and raised catfish. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling and was an avid Cubs and Notre Dame fan.
Surviving are his daughter, Christine Mast of Indianapolis; three sons, Michael Almasi of Shipshewana, Mark Almasi of Sturgis and Robert (Brett) Almasi of Grand Rapids; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Frank Jr. and Robert; and a sister, Carolyn.
Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday at Farrand Funeral Home in White Pigeon. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016, at the funeral home, with Deacon Larry Kasuboski of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
