The 2016 Sturgis Toy Run is set for Sept. 10 and the city of Sturgis will again provide police and public-services support.
Sturgis city commissioners earlier this month agreed to supply a police presence for the event, and department of public services workers to place and remove street barricades for the procession of motorcycles through town on U.S. 12.
The city’s offer of free services as a sponsor is contingent on the non-profit Toy Run providing insurance, sufficient coordinating volunteers and a cooperative effort with St. Joseph County officials.
The Toy Run has attracted hundreds of motorcyclists who participate in an organized ride through the county. Participants collect toys and cash that become gifts to area children in need during the holiday season.
Officials said the parade of bikes is expected to enter the city westbound on U.S. 12 around 1:15 p.m. on the day of the ride.
