Sturgis man dies from injuries suffered in crash

A Sturgis man died over the weekend from injuries he suffered in a two-vehicle accident July 2 in Burr Oak Township.
Family members said Jimmy Whitt, 55, passed away shortly after he was taken off life support Sunday afternoon at Bronson Methodist Hospital.
Sheriff’s deputies said a United States Postal Service mail-transfer truck driven by 55-year-old Kenelm Digby, of Otsego, was northbound on M-66 at 5:30 a.m. July 2, when it hit a trailered boat hitched to an SUV waiting to turn westbound onto Findley Road.
Whitt’s son, Joshua Rose, 35, of Sturgis was driving the SUV.
Whitt was airlifted from the scene. Rose suffered minor injuries and Digby was uninjured. The boat was destroyed.
Digby was cited for failure to yield. Investigators said it appears alcohol and speed were not factors in the incident.
