St. Joseph County commissioners are expected to consider whether to support a grant request from the village of Constantine.
During last week’s executive committee meeting, commissioners heard from village manager Mark Honeysett regarding details of the $100,000 request.
In addition, Diana Lammott, DDA director, said the money being sought from commissioners would be re-distributed to prospective recipients whose proposed projects qualify for DDA funding.
County administrator Pat Yoder said the county about 18 months ago established a grant fund specifically for St. Joseph County communities to use for economic development. The grant comes with a $100,000 cap and the original stipulation was amended to allow for re-granting.
Yoder said Three Rivers was the first community to receive a grant through the fund. In addition to the village of Constantine, the city of Sturgis has made a request to help finance an ongoing downtown project.
The village’s and Sturgis’ grant requests will be fielded during Tuesday’s board of commissioners meeting.
