Family of 5 swans found dead along Washtenaw County road

A family of swans has been found dead along a Washtenaw County road.

Scio Township resident Emily Bauerle tells The Ann Arbor News that she saw the five dead water fowl Wednesday in Freedom Township and it appears they were hit by a vehicle.

Bauerle says the swans were hit several feet from the roadway near a pond. Bauerle said she would pass the pond four times a day and see the swans grooming and paddling about.

Washtenaw County sheriff’s Sgt. Keith Flores says “with the evidence left at the scene, it appears they were deliberately ran over” and there were “tire tracks left at the scene.”

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Humane Society of Huron Valley also are investigating the swans’ deaths.  (AP)
