The murder trial of suspect Westly George concluded after closing arguments Wednesday.
Jurors started the deliberation process at 1:30 p.m. to determine the fate of George, who is on trial for the August 2015 fatal shooting of Eugune Jackson in Three Rivers.
The final prosecution witness was Three Rivers Police Det./Sgt. Michael Mohney, who served as lead investigator in the case. Mohney said he interviewed George at the St. Joseph County jail following the shooting.
He said George told him he had seen Jackson and another man arguing. He heard gunshots and then took off running. Mohney said that later, he checked the streets and found no evidence that shots were fired from the road.
Defense council Deborah Davis asked Circuit Court Judge Paul Stutesman for a directed verdict of not guilty. That motion was denied by Stutesman and Davis began her defense.
