Completion of one of two major road projects in St. Joseph County is going to be delayed by two weeks.
The other, however, is on schedule and should be completed by the end of next week.
St. Joseph County Road Commission Manager Chris Minger said the crew working on reshaping the two-thirds of a mile of Lovers Lane has run into a glitch and the project probably won’t be completed until the middle of October. He said the roadway is being reconstructed through a process called “crush and shape.”
The company assigned to complete the $228,000 task, Niblock Excavating, ran into a small issue regarding its paperwork with the Michigan Department of Transportation.
As a result, the revised completion date on the Lovers Lane project is Oct. 15, Minger said. It was originally expected to be finished early next week.
Over in Mendon Township, the 1-and-1/2-mile job on Silver Street from M-60 south to Wakeman Road is progressing on schedule.
He said the crush-and-shape process was done without incident and the first of two layers of asphalt is scheduled to be laid Monday.
The work on Silver Street is being performed by Rieth-Riley Construction.
It will cost about $400,000 to complete the project, Minger said.
