A house in Sturgis sustained substantial damage as the result of a fire over the weekend.
Sturgis Fire Captain Cody Cripe said the department was dispatched around 4:30 a.m. Sunday to the 200 block of North Fourth Street.
Upon arrival, firefighters noticed fire on the outside of the residence and an occupant attempting to extinguish it with a garden hose.
There was some extension of fire into the attic of the home, Cripe said.
Crews were on the scene for two hours; all occupants were safely evacuated from the home and no injuries were reported.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
