Sturgis sells reclaimed bricks

The city of Sturgis raised nearly $4,000 this month on the sale of 39,000 century-old bricks.
City Manager Mike Hughes said the auction of 120 pallets of reclaimed street bricks garnered more money than officials expected.
Proceeds will be dedicated to the city’s ongoing street projects.
The bricks were recovered when the city reconstructed aging brick streets, primarily South Nottawa Street. According to Hughes, many of the bricks have been retained by the city for use in future projects. But 120 pallets, each containing about 325 bricks, were made available to city property owners who participated in an auction for the lots.
Several participants said they planned to use the historic bricks for patio and landscaping projects.

  1. Please tell me. What kind of bricks are these? What were they made of?

I have seen bricks crumble in one season. These seem to be indestructible.

    Thank you!
